2001 – 2002
Captain: Brandon Dammerman
The Queen’s squash team improved upon its performance last year in both the league and cuppers. This can no doubt be attributed to the presence of most of last year’s team. In the third division of the league the Queen’s first team (the core of which consisted of Brandon Dammerman, David Nasralla, James Walton, Jim Luke and Rob Lawton) won nearly all its matches. Although Queen’s fell just short of advancing into the second division, it is to be hoped that the team will secure promotion next year since many of this year’s players will still be members of the College.
Unfortunately, despite a strong squad, the Queen’s cuppers team was knocked out in the quarter finals by an exceptional Merton team that went on to win the final. Chris Hastings, who this year was not only awarded another blue but also played in the number one position for the University team, easily gained the team’s only point against Merton, but the rest of the team could not approach this high standard. Before being eliminated by Merton, Queen’s won comfortable victories over Christ Church and Wadham.
