2010 – 2011

Officers: Captain David Phillips

After a reformation of the league system, the Queen’s squash team found itself in the second division. Three promising freshers made a strong impact on college squash at the start of the season, the most notable being Tim Luetchford, next year’s captain, who must be congratulated for remaining unbeaten throughout the year. These fresh legs combined well with the more experienced members of the squad and, with some great determination shown throughout, survival in the second division was achieved by the end of Michaelmas Term. A more intense training regime saw a peak in form at the start of Hilary Term as the team pushed for promotion in the second half of the season, missing out only by a couple of points in the end. A strengthened Cuppers team resulted in a wonderful run – to match last year’s effort, Queen’s reached the semi-finals, only to lose narrowly to Balliol, the competition’s eventual winners. With no players being lost for next year, however, more hard work and experience can only lead to success in what promises to be a fruitful 2011-12 season.
