MEN’S LAWN TENNIS REPORT

The Queen’s Tennis Club had a good season, not only winning four out of five games in the second division but also having the strength in depth to produce a second team which also won four out of its five matches. The partnership of Tom Bowden and Kris Cawood was especially strong, winning almost all of its matches. The fact that in all fifteen different players represented the College during Trinity Term bodes well for the future. Sadly, neither of the two teams was able to progress beyond the second round of Cuppers.

WOMEN’S LAWN TENNIS REPORT

Despite a severe shortage of players, the 2009 season proved successful for the College team. In the league, Queen’s defeated all four of the other colleges in their section and, hence, went forward to the semi-final play-off. Unfortunately, two of the team were in the Examination Schools at the appointed time, and Queen’s had to forfeit the match. Queen’s easily reached the quarter-finals of Cuppers, where it met a very experienced New College team. After a gallant effort, Queen’s was narrowly defeated. This season the quality of the players has not been in doubt, but an intake of a few keen freshers is necessary in order that Queen’s may fulfil its promise.
